ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Delight For New Zealand

The runners-up of ICC ODI WC 2019 New Zealand have started their campaign in a grand fashion. New Zealand has won 3 matches out of 3 and the side has exceedingly done well in the absence of Kane Williamson (*was unavailable for the first 2 matches due to a knee injury that he had sustained during IPL 2023).

New Zealand’s dashing left-handed batter Devon Conway has amassed 229 runs in 3 matches and has struck 1 ton and one half-century. The trump card for New Zealand was the eclectic all-rounder  Rachin Ravindra who stole the limelight in the opening match against England when he was in a beast mode against the 2023 ODI WC champions.

Huge blow for New Zealand

New Zealand’s skipper Kane Williamson is expected to miss the major chunk of the ODI WC 2023 due to the finger injury. The batter was seen taking a run at the non-striker end but got hit on his right finger. The batter was seen making a comeback from his knee injury and now his finger injury has raised questions over his comeback to the side now.

Tom Latham is expected to resume the captaincy duties who did a commendable in the first 2 matches of the marquee tournament. Tom Latham can be seen displaying attacking tactics and at the same time having constant interactions with the bowlers and stood behind them in tough phases.

New Zealand on a roll

The rise of Trent Boult with the bowl in hand has done wonders for the team. The left arm pacer has made sure that he breaks the crucial partnership and undoubtedly Boult is being termed as the bowler with the golden arm. Boult has a lot of variations which makes him quite tough to pick.

New Zealand have made a statement by winning the first 3 matches that they are not in WC 2023 just to participate. The attitude of Black Caps suggest that they want the ODI WC 2023 trophy badly after missing out by barest of margins of 2019 edition. It won’t be an easy task for Black Caps but they have made an effective start to the championship.
