In a thrilling encounter at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, the Mumbai Indians led by Hardik Pandya secured their second victory of the current IPL season, defeating the Royal Challengers Bangalore by seven wickets. Despite RCB’s challenging total of 196 runs, MI chased down the target comfortably, thanks to Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav’s explosive batting performances, both scoring quickfire half-centuries.

The way we have won is quite impressive- Hardik Pandya

MI captain Hardik Pandya remarked that he was quite impressed with the way his team handled the chase.

It is always good to win, and the way we have won, it’s quite impressive, Pandya said at the post-match presentation.

Suryakumar Yadav delivered a spectacular performance, scoring 52 runs from just 19 balls, stepping in after seamer Akash Madhwal, whom he replaced, took the wicket of RCB’s top-order batter Will Jacks. Pandya mentioned that the impact player rule allowed him to utilize an additional bowler, a strategy that proved effective in the game.

The impact player has given the opportunity to use an extra bowler if we require it. It gives me a cushion as well,” Pandya expressed.

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan established a solid 101-run partnership for the opening stand, enabling MI to complete the chase with 27 balls to spare. Hardik Pandya shared that the players in his team clearly understand their roles.

The way Ro and Kishan batted, giving the platform, it was important for us to finish it early. We didn’t speak about it. That’s the beauty of this team, players know what to do,” he said.

Blessed to have him on my side- Hardik Pandya on Jasprit Bumrah

The spotlight of the day, however, was on pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who delivered an exceptional five-wicket haul by dismissing Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Mahipal Lomror, Saurav Chauhan, and Vyshak Vijayakumar. Hardik Pandya praised the seamer, highlighting his confidence and experience, which were key to his outstanding performance.

Blessed to have Bumrah on my side. He does it over and over again. He practices a lot. The amount of experience and confidence he has is tremendous,” Pandya added.

Pandya also praised the returning Suryakumar for his impressive knock, highlighting his comeback after being sidelined due to injury. Pandya added that it’s challenging to set a field to contain the 33-year-old when he’s in such good form.

I did tell him when he scored the fifty that welcome back. I’ve been opposition captain as well against him, it’s tough to set a field for him,” the Mumbai Indians skipper concluded.
