Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis is feeling the strain after his team’s fifth consecutive loss in IPL 2024, confessing that the pressure has been so intense it feels like his “mind is going to explode.” RCB have participated in seven matches this season, securing only one victory – against the Punjab Kings on March 25. Following that win, they’ve endured a string of disappointing performances, including a recent match where Sunrisers Hyderabad set a new record for the highest team score in IPL history.

Du Plessis acknowledged the difficulty for bowlers that night, admitting that none of RCB’s strategies worked as intended. Four of the six bowlers RCB deployed against SRH each gave up at least 51 runs. The only two bowlers who managed to concede fewer than 50 runs were, unsurprisingly, those who did not bowl their full quota of four overs.

It’s crazy the amount of runs scored today, a world record. I wouldn’t say 270 is par. It’s tough (to bowl on a day like this). We tried a few things behind the closed doors and they weren’t really working,” Du Plessis said after the match.

There’s no way to hide- Faf du Plessis

Faf Du Plessis acknowledged that RCB is currently low on confidence.

Cricket is tough when your confidence is low, there’s no way to hide. The fast bowlers found it quite difficult out there. Similar to the batting perspective, we need to work on a few areas. Need to make sure the run rate doesn’t go down after powerplay. It’s the way the game has evolved.  The guys put up their hands and never gave up (in the run chase). It was good to see there was a bit of fight in us. 30-40 runs from the bowling perspective was a bit too much,” he said.

Faf Du Plessis mentioned that the team needs to take some time to regroup and freshen up before facing their next challenge.

It’s important to go away and freshen your mind, it’s such a mental game. Sometimes you feel your mind is going to explode. When you get back to the contest you have to give full commitment,” the RCB skipper said.
