Simon Doull was having an interaction with Sky Sports. Simon Doull said that the worst thing that happened with Ireland cricket was attaining the Test cricket status. Simon Doull justified his statement by saying that Test cricket won’t be the ultimate format in in the next 15-20 years.
“I’m surely going to lose some fans here, but the worst thing that happened with Irish cricket was that they got Test-playing nation status. It is going to sound silly because you want to test yourselves against the best side of the world. Playing Test cricket is still the ultimate for nations; it would not be that ultimate in the future in 15-20 years.”
“Ireland cricket was at its peak when their players were playing county cricket. And when they were at their peak, most of their players played a very high quality of cricket in England,” he stated.
“They could transfer that to an Irish cricket team that could play with passion, and there were plenty of players in and around that side that had a lot of experience and had been through situations where they knew how to win,” he added.
Ireland cricket losing it’s importance
Ireland cricket has been a great performing cricket nation. They have some experienced players in their team along with some young lads who are carrying their team forward and winning matches for the team. In recent times, the young players have taken the charge for the team to win matches even against big teams.
The likes of Paul Stirling & Andrew Balbirnie need to grind the opposition as Test cricket is quite grueling. Ireland recently lost the Test Series against Sri Lanka by 2-0 but they fought hard which showed that they are quite interested into the format.
