Faf Du Plessis played a crucial innings, scoring a strong half-century and emerging as the top-scorer for Royal Challengers Bangalore, helping them post a competitive total of 196/8 in their 20 overs. Reflecting on the match, Du Plessis acknowledged that teams aim to put pressure on Jasprit Bumrah, but Bumrah’s diverse skill set and array of options make him a formidable opponent. Du Plessis candidly admitted that Bumrah’s performance was the decisive factor that set Mumbai Indians apart from Royal Challengers Bangalore in the match.

He (Bumrah) has been the difference in the two innings. We put them under pressure but the one guy, being out there myself, and you see him with the ball in his hand. You want to put him under pressure, but the variety does everyone in. He has got a really good bouncer, slower ball,” Du Plessis told the broadcasters after the match.

Jasprit Bumrah concluded with impressive bowling figures of 5/21 from his four overs. Despite Royal Challengers Bangalore finishing with a competitive total, the impact of Bumrah’s spell became evident as Mumbai Indians chased down the target in just 15.3 overs. Ishan Kishan’s aggressive 69 off 34 balls and Suryakumar Yadav’s quickfire 52 off 19 deliveries dismantled the RCB bowling attack, leading Mumbai Indians to a convincing seven-wicket victory.

Someone like (Lasith) Malinga was the best bowler in T20 cricket but Bumrah has taken over the reins. You know you can bring him on and take the wickets but also be defensive,” Du Plessis said.

For me, preparation is always the key- Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah provided a glimpse into his preparation strategy for matches, highlighting his meticulous approach to studying opposition batters.

Nowadays, you just cannot come on the day and say okay I’ll do this, maybe this will work,” Bumrah said during the post-match presentation. “For me, preparation is always the key. When you prepare hard, you put yourself under pressure in the nets. You bowl to batters in the nets who hit big sixes, find out how you react to pressure. Then you start finding answers. That is very very important for me – to keep pushing yourself in training. Then on game day, you have answers that okay when I had similar pressure in training, I had answers. I do my research and see where the batter is strong.”
