Dhruv Jurel‘s first-inning knock was the standout performance of the fourth Test match between India and England in Ranchi, according to former India bowler RP Singh.

With 90 runs from 149 deliveries, Jurel cut India’s deficit after one inning to 46. After that, he struck an unbeaten 39 off 77 balls in the second inning, helping the hosts win by five wickets and take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series.

After Ravichandran Ashwin was dismissed, India’s first-inning total was 177/7, trailing the visitors by 176 runs. Before being removed as the last player, Dhruv Jurel scored 130 runs with Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Kuldeep Yadav for the last three wickets.

“You came back into the game because of that” – RP Singh lauds Dhruv Jurel’s knock

In a Colors Cineplex discussion, RP Singh selected Jurel’s first-inning performance as the highlight of the fourth Test. He went on to say that it arrived at the perfect time, making our route to triumph a little bit simpler.

“There are many stories in Test matches as there are a lot of ups and downs. If I have to pick one, in my opinion, it will be Dhruv Jurel’s knock, the young talent who played a good 90-run knock,” Singh stated.

The former Indian pacer reflected about how important the Jurel’s knock was, and how we would have lost this match if Dhruv Jurel had been out early.

“You came back into the game because of that. If Dhruv Jurel had gotten out early, we might have fallen way behind in this match. So that knock was special. It came at the right time and our path to victory became slightly easier because of that,” he added.

“Dhruv Jurel showed maturity beyond his age”- Owais Shah on Jurel’s performance in the test

Owais Shah was then asked how impressed he was with Dhruv Jurel’s performance. He said that since he got his team out of challenges and got them to this point where a victory was feasible, 90 was equivalent to 100.

“Very impressive, especially the first innings. That 90 was equivalent to a hundred because he took his team out of trouble and made them reach here where a win was possible. He told the captain that he had done his job and asked him to give the ball to Ashwin, Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav and they would win the match,” he elaborated.

The wicketkeeper-batter, who lacked experience, was lauded by the former England player for his maturity.

“I feel he showed great composure. Another player who showed maturity beyond his age. Yashasvi Jaiswal has consistently been doing it and troubling the England captain, but another star for the future,” Shah added.

When Jurel left the field to bat in the second innings, India found themselves in trouble as they were chasing a 192-run mark at 120/5. To push the hosts over the finish line, he and Shubman Gill (52* off 124) put up an unbroken 72-run sixth-wicket partnership.
