Shubman Gill hasn’t been able to dictate the terms as the batter failed to make a mark against Pakistan in the group stage. Shubman Gill looked in two minds whether to attack or defend as a result he got into the shell which hurt the team.
Shubman perhaps needs to be fearless in his approach and use crease before taking the attack down the opposition. Skipper Rohit Sharma would be hoping that Shubman hits form against Pakistan on 10th September in the Super 4 stage as Rohit is someone who requires time before going berserk.
Head coach Rahul Dravid would be hoping that the top order fires as every time the likes of Hardik Pandya & Ishan Kishan won’t take the team out of the muddle. There are chances that the all-rounder Shardul Thakur would be used as a floater or a pinch hitter as the batter has got a wide range of shorts.
Shubman Gill has performed against bowlers faster than Shaheen Afridi- Salman Butt
Salman Butt was seen speaking on his You Tube channel and said that Shubman Gill shouldn’t be taken lightly. Salman Butt gave the example of how Shubman Gill tormented Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada and also New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson and said that it’s just a matter of time before Shubman Gill can disseminate the opposition.
“Shubman Gill has faced Nortje who has a similar pace. He has faced Rabada and others too. It’s not just pace, it’s also because of the line and length and swing, along with that pace. Shaheen’s skill set is the factor,” said Salman Butt.
“This is the same Shubman Gill who pulled Nortje on the front-foot, who took on the likes of Lockie Ferguson when he scored that double century in ODIs. He has performed against bowlers faster than Shaheen,” he stated.
“Shaheen’s big factor is the late swing with new ball. It troubles most batters. Shubman is new, but Rohit is one of the most experienced players, and he also faced trouble. Kohli also got out. Shaheen has troubled David Warner as well,” he added.
