Bangladesh cricket team was dealt with a massive blow after Tamim Iqbal stepped down from ODI captaincy. BCB has named the seasoned all-rounder Shakib al Hasan to lead the side for Asia Cup 2023 & ODI WC 2023. Shakib al Hasan‘s leadership has been quite commendable after being the leader in the 2011 WC.

Asia Cup 2023 which is scheduled from 30th August promises a grueling one. The tournament is considered to be the stepping stone for the marquee ODI WC 2023. Since the tourney is going to be played in Pakistan & Sri Lanka (*including the final), we can expect high-scoring thrillers and rank turners as well (*Sri Lankan pitches tend to assist the spinners)

I think we are a very good team- Shakib al Hasan

Shakib Al Hasan can be seen playing in the ongoing LPL 2023. During the mid-innings break, the dashing all-rounder spoke about captaincy and stated that the side has a great opportunity to do well in the marquee ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

“It is nothing new to me. It’s a great opportunity for us to do well in the World Cup. I think we are a very good team and now it is the time to show everyone how good we are. It is a great challenge for our team to showcase how good we have become in the last four years,” said Shakib al Hasan.

Steep road ahead for Bangladesh

In the absence of Tamim Iqbal, the sensational right-handed batter Litton Das will have to bat responsibly and negate the threat of spinners in the middle overs. Bangladesh’s arsenal over the years has been spin as the role of Mehidy Hasan would be quite pivotal.

Skipper Shakib al Hasan had a brilliant ODI WC 2019 when he was batting at no.3 position. It would be interesting to see whether there is a change in batting combination, we have seen in the past that captaincy brings the best out of Shakib Al Hasan who is a part of the setup since more than 15 years.
