Indian cricket team’s 360-degree batter Suryakumar Yadav has failed to dictate the terms in the ODI format. Suryakumar Yadav‘s attacking brand of cricket has backfired but still, he has been preferred over the destructive wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson. Suryakumar perhaps needs to get his eye in and then unleash an attack on the opposition. We witnessed how the batter failed against Australia in the ODI series in 2023 when he registered 3 ducks.

It would be interesting to see at what batting position will Suryakumar Yadav bat in the Asia Cup 2023. The side already has the services of Hardik Pandya & Ravindra Jadeja who can decimate the opposition with their fearless brand of cricket at the back end of the innings. Suryakumar Yadav can be used as a floater as a breezy knock of 40-odd runs in 20 balls can change the complexion of the match.

I am really looking forward to doing well in the ODI format- Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav was having an interaction with Star Sports ahead of the 2023 Asia Cup. Suryakumar Yadav was quite candid in the interaction and stated that he has been having conversations with head coach Rahul Dravid, skipper Rohit Sharma & star cricketer Virat Kohli and is quite optimistic of performing well in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 which is considered to be a stepping stone for ODI WC 2023.

“I will try to do well in the role that I am given. This is one format in which I am really looking forward to doing well. Everyone keeps saying that I am doing great in T20, and this is also white-ball cricket, so why am I not able to crack the code here? But I have been practicing,” said Suryakumar Yadav.

“I feel this is the most challenging format where you need to play like all three formats, depending on the situation. I am working on that and also have been talking a lot to Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli. Hopefully, I will crack the code with this tournament,” he added.

I am trying to play as per the situation- Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav stated that he is still trying to decode the ODI format. Suryakumar doesn’t have encouraging numbers in the ODIs but still the Ajit Agarkar selection panel & management have shown faith in him. Suryakumar pointed out that there is nothing to shy away from smashing the first ball for a boundary which is quite an audacious approach in the ODI format.

“I am trying to keep the same approach and intent in ODIs. I am trying to play as per the situation. If I walk out in the 30th over, I cannot play like I play in T20s right from the outset. I am practicing keeping that in mind to decode this format. The way my preparations are going, hopefully, I will be able to decode this,” said Suryakumar Yadav.

“I am very excited when I am in the dugout. I wait for my turn to bat. It doesn’t matter even if I get out on the very first ball, but my heart rate is always high in the dugout as I keep on visualizing how I am going to bat. I run to the pitch while going to bat so that I am ready for the first ball, as my heart rate is already up,” he stated.

“There is nothing to shy away from if I want to hit the first ball for a four or a six. It is when I play a few balls and the running between the wickets is good I feel that I am in the zone,” he added.
