Virat Kohli‘s blazing performance at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday night led the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to chase down 177 against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2024 match no.6. Virat Kohli‘s classic innings was followed by a vintage finish from Dinesh Karthik, helping the hosts secure their first win of the season.

Kohli’s knock of 77 runs off 49 balls, including 2 sixes and 11 boundaries, was a treat for the crowd. The Kings’ missed opportunities, dropping him on 0 and 33, proved costly as Kohli capitalized on these chances. Although his dismissal in the 16th over off Harshal Patel’s bowling provided a glimmer of hope for the Kings, Dinesh Karthik and ‘Impact Sub’ Mahipal Lomror teamed up to steer RCB to victory.

I could see it in his eyes, this guy meant business tonight- AB de Villiers on Virat Kohli

The cricket fraternity hailed Virat Kohli for his outstanding performance, which not only laid the foundation for RCB’s victory but also marked his 100th fifty-plus score in T20 cricket. AB de Villiers, speaking as a Jio Cinema expert, praised Kohli, noting that he would likely be disappointed with getting out before finishing the game.

“I could see it in his eyes, this guy meant business tonight and nobody was going to stand in his way. Unfortunately, he didn’t finish it at the back end. He would have wanted to. Knowing him, he will be analysing tonight in his room, ‘Why didn’t I finish that game?’ He’s very hard on himself sometimes. He’s creeping up there on the list of most 50+ scores with the other guys in IPL history. He’s an amazing player, he played fantastically well tonight. He kept it together, kept them in the game. Well played, Virat,” De Villiers said on Jio Cinema.

AB de Villiers also praised Dinesh Karthik for his crucial contribution, highlighting his unbeaten 28 off 10 balls that helped RCB secure the victory. Karthik’s calm approach in the final overs, along with Mahipal Lomror, guided Bangalore to victory, earning admiration from de Villiers for his composure under pressure.

“DK, what an addition to the middle order in a finishing role from a few years back. I thought it was quite a bold move from RCB back in the day, a guy who doesn’t play that often, but the calmness he brings and how smart he is. He didn’t take a lot of risk, he’s very calculated. He knew they couldn’t afford to lose another wicket. 28 off 10 balls at the back end, whether it’s good or bad bowling, it’s an exceptional effort… All in all, a match-winning finish from him, and I’m very proud of him,” AB de Villiers concluded.
