Ashes 2023: “Jonny Bairstow Isn’t Moving 100 Percent Right”- Geoffrey Boycott Questions Selection Of The Wicket-Keeper Batter For 4th Test Match

England would be eager to square the Ashes series at Manchester on 19th July. England have shown faith in Jonny Bairstow for the 4th Test match despite having a scratchy run in the 3rd Test match. Jonny Bairstow has looked in two minds about whether to attack or defend due to which he is not able to play his natural attacking brand of cricket.

England can’t afford to be complacent as the track at Manchester is expected to be a run fest. It would be interesting to see whether James Anderson finds a place in the playing 11 after the terrific outing of Chris Woakes and Mark Wood as the duo contributed with both ball & bat.

Jonny Bairstow is not fit- Geoffrey Boycott

Geoffrey Boycott wrote in his column for the Daily Telegraph and pointed out that England should make a change for the 4th Test match and drop Jonny Bairstow. Geoffrey Boycott stated that Jonny Bairstow isn’t fit to play cricket at the highest level.

“Some people say never change a winning team. I disagree. My experience of playing at the highest level for so long and my common sense tells me that Jonny Bairstow is not fit. Last year, he suffered a horrific injury with a broken leg in two places and damaged ligaments,” said Geoffrey Boycott.

Jonny Bairstow is short of competitive batting and wicketkeeping- Geoffrey Boycott

Geoffrey Boycott pointed out that the dashing right handed batter Jonny Bairstow was selected into the side on the basis of last summer’s splendid performance when the swashbuckling batter struck centuries against New Zealand and India.

“Jonny Bairstow isn’t moving 100 percent right and is short of competitive batting and wicketkeeping. He has been selected on last summer’s marvelous match winning batting, but at this moment in time is a shadow of his best,” said Geoffrey Boycott.

“It is very sad and outwardly he may show he is upbeat and full of exuberance, but when you fall on the big stage in the full glare of publicity there is nowhere to hide and deep down it affects your confidence,” he added.
